i like a LOT of music, and here are few of the sites i hit to dig through, learn and enjoy the fruits of this love...
irrelevant
how do you describe a band that includes friends you've known since you were 15, people who have influenced your musical taste more so than anyone else, people who you have broken down in the middle of nowhere with... and now they are playing some of the most amazing melodic, emotional hardcore... staying true and playing from their hearts and still being one of the nicest bands around. these boys deserve all the love they get.
Hot Water Music
i discovered this band while in cold, rainy melbourne... i still remember exactly the first moment i heard them and i knew then that i had found something special. they pour so much emotion and energy into their music, and they are arguably the best band ive ever seen live. off-stage they are humble, friendly and very appreciative of any thanks they receive. with every album they just get better...
Elefant Traks/The Herd
for me this is why i like electronica... these guys (and sometimes a girl or two) are clever, funny, insightful, political, diverse yet true to their australian roots and always entertaining. representing sydney with their own form of local pride they are raising hell, speaking out and picking up new fans everywhere they go.
PunkRocks.net
this probably isnt the best punk news site, but i like the personalities on it so much i never seem to check too many other places (though their sibling 'pastepunk' does get some viewing as well.) a good place to see what tours you are missing, what albums you cant buy here, and what bands that you never saw have now broken up...
Spine Magazine
an excellent entry point into whats doing in both UK and underground US hiphop. these guys know their stuff, and are cool as hell. interviews, record reviews, regular content and some great design, it also covers interesting new clothing labels and assorted goodies. check out their 'crooked tongues' site for what is apparently the worlds most popular sneaker site.
propagandhi
political, satirical, ironic thoughts over fast 80s speed metal and 90s punk played by three skinny, pasty canadians? sounds crap eh? too bad if you think it is... cause then you miss out on the one band i can think of that can play an strident anti-racism song, then play a song dissing hardcore pride nude and make it work. listen and feel your brain grow.
buddyhead
this is salacious gossip, unfounded opinion and arrogant hellraising... but they do keep mentioning bands that i get into. enter at your own moral risk.
